79 z28 350 edelbroc carbs... when i try to start the car fire spits out of the carbs?

Your ignition timing or valve timing is *way* off. You need to recheck your distributor position. If it still does it with the correct distributor position, then you need to look at a possible timing chain/sprockets failure.
