  • I see it as them just trying to force the bibles opinions upon me. I do not see it as them doing something out of spite, just that they are blinded by faith! Personally I think the majority of the bible is hilarious! Think about it, what other book out there has war, murder, halucinations, ghosts, magic, incest and LOADS more including ALOT of contradictions and still sell billions???
  • Depends on the point, really, much in the same way That one could quote any other literary work.
  • I generally see it as an honest attempt to share their faith with me. It doesn't tend to work very well, but at least most of the time, I think they're in earnest. The only exceptions to this are SOME of the people who come to my door to tell me about mormonism or jehovah's witnessism or whatever. Some of those people seem brainwashed. Some seem to doubt a good bit more, and are clearly doing it because someone else told them they ought to be, and are doubting it themselves. These last are by far the most interesting to talk with.
  • I tend to see it as a cop-out, unless I am asking for a quotation specific answer: ie. "Please tell me all of the refrences the bible gives for sloth". THAT is a qoute specific answer. Most of the time, I think that people just use the bible for their pig-headed ness, and refuse to hear that there *might* be more than just what some guys said TWO THOUSAND YEARS AGO. And were MORTALS. Who can SIN. And DID SIN. But this is a hot button issue for me, so I will now step down off my soap box. Also, because I know "The Bible Brigade" will downrate me for my OPINION- Just read the question. It asks how *I* see it. :)
  • Both really. To some the bible is used as a heavy hand with out of context verses being used to prove points of order. To others they still use the bible to prove points but still it is often out of the context of the passage. For such people it is with the best interests of their hearers at heart. I am a Christian preacher and believe the bible should be taught and then from within its own context it will address issues of life.
  • If the question is asking about religious beliefs etc, then a back up with a Bible verse can't hurt. If its tackling everyday trifles that people go through, I don't see it as preachy, it just gives reason to why a persons opinion is the way it is. Same reasoning as if someone uses any book or quote, religious or not, to give some more "impact" to their answer.
  • As a Christian I use it to attempt to share my faith. I know many non-Christians see it as a cop out, I can't help that. I see their use of foul language as a cop out-to shut us up quickly. It's a shame they have such an abusive way of speaking to their fellow human beings. In His service, <:))))<>< "Knowing the Bible is one thing. Knowing the Author is another!" ~Anonymous~
  • I find it very 'preachy' for the most part. There ARE exceptions. I do not believe the bible is the 'word of God'. I do not believe in the Christian God. And I find that the same ones that have no problem spouting book and verse of their bible would cover their ears, close their eyes, and talk as loud as they could to cover my voice were I to do the same about my beliefs to them. Many can dish it out, preach away, but can't take it, listening as attentively as they want me to.
  • If they accompany the Bible quote with something that THEY wrote, I do not mind it. It is like a machine to me when they just crank out Bible verse. It is not even rational for THEM to do it because even BIBLE scholars have difficulty with the Bible at times. Can they expect a layman to understand the scripture they crank out?
  • I dislike it when someone brings up the bible/koran to back up anything that they say unless it is on a religion topic. I normally want a real answer, not some quote from a two thousand year old book that I don't believe in.
  • I would appreciate that person's honest attempt to share with me what he or she believes as truth. At the very least I know it is not mere words of human wisdom.
