  • I'm so sorry to hear about your puppy. The answer I'm afraid is yes, the Parvo virus can survive upto 6 months in your home, so be very careful if you are going to get another dog. http://www.workingdogs.com/parvofaq.htm will give you all the details you need.
  • im really sorry for you.. so, why wasnt the dog vaccinated against it?!
  • yes it's in your rug and all over your house if your puppy had access to it and in your backyard, wherever the puppy went it probably spread the virus. That is why most breeders recommend that a puppy be kept away from all other dogs unitl it is completely safe. They can't be vacinated at a very early age and need multiple exposures or boosters to get it immune. Our breeders even had a plastic tub at the entrance to their hme and anyone entering had to step onto the towel with bleach water on it to prevent bringing it into the home where puppies are kept. It is possible for someone to bring parvo virus into the house by walking on a sidewalk, or wherever a dog has been and tracking it in on the bottoms of your shoes or feet. It is highly contagious. We lived in a very high parvo area. No puppies wne out of our yard until the shots took full effect. I'm so sorry about your puppy I know it can be so sad.
