This actually makes some sense, but is not without problems to be overcome.

Homes could fairly easily be equipped with suitable a debit / credit transaction facility. The downside is security. Create an opportunity for crime and someone exploits it sooner or later. Tapping into a line feeding a group of homes and recording all transactions would become far more common than it is now, where it is generally restricted to individual retail outlets that can easily and rapidly be identified and cut out of the system. (I've had a credit card company call and tell me they were cancelling my card and issuing me a new account number, as I had recently used my card at a retailer where someone had been electronically copying card numbers and then charging purchases to the accounts.) It would, no doubt, prompt an substantial increase in electronic crime, as data lines can be easily accessed by anyone with a pair of overalls, a company badge, and enough chutzpah.

This is something to think about. I know in order to have a credit card machine the company that has it has to pay to use it each month. If people at home wanted to have a machine like that they would have to pay like companies do. If you know what I mean. Also with so many people owning computers a credit card machine would probably not work for home use. That is why you only see buisnesses using them. Even if you had a credit card machine how would the company you want to buy something from online get the info from swiping the card at home. I know when you put in your credit card info on the companies website they are not actually swiping the card, but when they get the info from you they probably punch in the info and that is how you get charged. It's hard to explain this, but as I said I feel having a machine at home probably wouldn't work.
