Help answer this question below.

If the non-winners of American Idol can get record deals, what is the incentive to win American Idol? Is there a cash prize that I am unaware of?

    i think AI winners have to give a fixed percentage of their profits to the record deal/manager or whatever, but non-winners who get a record deal can be a little more flexible at how much/little they want to give to their manager.

    I think that what Idol has become is really more of a talent showcase than a competition. Yes, that is a nice think to have on your resume, winning American Idol, but the real goal I think is to make the top 10 or so and get some exposure. The year that Carrie Underwood won I think 7 out of the top 10 got record deals.

    The winner is guaranteed a record deal, and start writing songs and recording almost after done the show. There's also bragging rights and what not. However, a record deal still doesn't mean success.

    i often think the same thing. normally the runners up do better than the actual winners. on pop idol over here in england the winner gets a record deal and publicity etc but so do the runners up so winning isnt any different to coming second.
