You can use apple sauce in place of oil.

Usually people use oil because they think it's healthier than the usual butter. Actually if you divide the cake into so many slices and figure out how much oil will be in each slice it's not bad at all and the oil is in there for a reason. It's there to keep the cake moist and tender. It prevents the gluten from forming in the flour.

If it is a chocolate cake, prune puree is also a good replacement and makes a really moist cake.
