"Protestant" is an umbrella term for a group of Christian religions, and the Baptists are a part of it. Thus, they are the same, there is no differnce. Ciao.

Most Baptists believe their church has been around since Jesus called the first apostles. We beleive we are the original church Luke was talikng about in Acts: Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. Protestants are Lutherans, Methodists, Presbyterians, Anglicans, and others. Their churches were founded after Martin Luther slplit off from the Catholic church. They all came about in rebellion to the Catholic church, for right and correct reasons,in my opinion. Some did not like the pope, some rejected infant Baptism, some did not like the doctrine of pergatory, some just didn't like the hypochracy they saw in the priesthood. All are valid reasons to me. By the way Baptists never practiced any of these things, and were killed for not submitting to the Papal authority,or refusing to recant their faith.

I believe the original baptists were a Puritan off-shoot of the church of England in the 17th century. Its been a while since I looked into this but I believe one of the earliest churches was in Amsterdam. There is a belief among certain Baptists that their faith is unique and goes back to the first century (not a descendant of Roman Catholicism or the Protestant Revolution.) This is completely without evidence. The bible they use is the same (KJV or otherwise)as other Protestant denominations.
