  • The Air Force is more than planes. It is people fixing planes. It is people telling the planes where to go and what to do when they get there. It is people making sure that the guys fixing the planes have the parts they need. It is the office staff who make sure that everybody gets paid and that their personnel records are in order. It is people training those people how to do their jobs.

  • As with any modern organization, it takes people in many career fields with many specialities to keep the Air Force going. Just about any job you can think of is really vital in its own way to the success of the US Air Force's Mission.
  • well, take a look around an airport. everything that makes that airport work, run smoothly and keeps those planes flying are what you're going to find in the air force and more. mechanics, pilots, baggage/freight handlers, air controllers, security police, cooks, pilots, loadmasters, crewcheifs, feulers, fire specialists, civil engineers, teachers, clerks, et cetera. thousands of jobs. everything at an airport, plus the town surrounding it ;)
  • The number one enlisted career field (job) in the USAF is Manned Aerospace Maintenance (airplane mechanics). They make up 20% of the USAF. The number 2 enlisted career field for enlisted is Security Forces at 9%. Pilots make up 18% of the force. 16% of all officers and 7% of enlisted make up the medical field. The Air Force has every job that you can think of from Oboe players to air conditioning specialists.

  • As mentioned, the vast majority of positions are there to support the pilots, planes, missiles, etc. I was in the AF for 6 years and my job was to fuel all types of planes.
