  • Have you checked the sensors? That may be your problem.
  • The ABS light means there is a problem with the ABS system itself, not exactly the brakes. The brake light comes on (unless engaged with the e-brake) when there is a problem with the brake system. This can mean a loss in brake pressure, bad sensor, master cylinder malfunction, loss of boost, etc. Get the brakes checked at a brake shop by a competent mechanic. You say you got them checked - by who? Did they check all 4 brakes or just the front ones? Were the front brakes replaced properly? Make sure you dismantle the calipers/drums to ensure there is no debris lodged in there or no visible damage to the system. A quick visual check in this circumstance is not sufficient. The car is usually right. Trust it unless you can definitively prove the sensors are wrong. Remember - those lights are there to protect you...don't try to circumvent them. Hope this helps, Good luck
  • ABS and your standard brakes are 2 separate systems. ABS only works in a panic stop or whenever your brakes lock up like on ice etc. Replacing parts in your standard brake system will do nothing to fix your ABS problem. The brake light and the ABS light will both come on if you have an ABS only problem. Only the brake light will come on if you have a problem in your standard brake system caused by a pressure loss in the hydraulic system. Or when you apply your parking brake. You need to have the computer rechecked for the code or codes causing the lights to come on. Just resetting it doesn't fix the problem. Jimmys and Blazers both had a lot of problems with the front ABS sensors with broken wires. a scan with a computer will tell you exactly what it is. Get it rescanned and let us know what it says and we can go from there. :) P.S. having your ABS light on is perfectly safe. It doesn't affect your standard braking system at all. Its just like driving a vehicle without ABS.
  • I work for GM in the group that works on ABS brakes.. I don't wan't to disagree with others but.. If the red light is on you could have a serious problem. Here is some text from a service guide. This if for the RED brake light. Brake Warning System Description and Operation Brake Warning Indicator The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the brake warning indicator when one or more of the following occurs: The body control module (BCM) detects that the park brake is engaged. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the BCM requesting illumination. The electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects a low brake fluid condition. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination. The EBCM detects an ABS malfunction which disables dynamic rear proportioning (DRP) The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination. The IPC performs the bulb check at the start of each ignition cycle. The brake warning indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds before turning OFF. The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the BCM or with the EBCM. The reference to DRP is the concern. It used to be that there was a valve in the system that mad sure that the pressure in the rear brakes wouldn't get high enought to lock the rear wheels until well after the front wheels locked this made sure your truck would not spin out under hard braking. Now this is handled by DRP which is in the ABS system if the ABS module is not working you could have the rear wheel lock up and that is a bad thing (think riding on the front of a shopping cart going backwards) Make sure none of the other listed issues are present and the have the ABS codes read. Autozone stores have devices that can do this for you and they will normally do it for free. In the mean time please be careful
  • Mciagan A good rual to remember.. Yellow Information.. Red Danger.. The yellow ABS light on means that ABS is not working and you will only have regular brakes. If the red brake light comes on, you could have a SERIOUS problem. Easy thing to check are low brake fluid or the park brake. If this dosn't fix the problem there is a serious problem with the system. With your truck, there are parts of the ABS system that effect normal braking, so if certain parts of your truck that are for ABS fail, it will still turn on the red light because it can cause serious problems during non-ABS braking. Please drive carefully untill you get your truck checked.
  • Any Idea why both light only come on shortly after I turn my a/c on. They turn off if I pull over turn my truck of and restart it.
  • Just had mine repaired at dealer. The sending brain for the ABS was bad. The part was $1000.00 with around a $200.00 instalation fee. Was in the same situation as you. Had brakes done at local shop. Light still on so he hooked to computer and it stated the brain box was bad. I didn't want to beleive that so I took to dealer and sure enough, same result with computer. Only 87k on the vehicle but had to spend the money to meet inspection. Also spring broke in Ebrake and that part was another $600.00 along with labor. Sorry for the bad news.
