My car sputters and nearly stops when under acceleration, but after a while it starts firing correctly. What might the problem be?

    When my Toyota did this I found it was a dirty fuel filter. Once I replaced it ($4), it stopped cutting out and ran like a top again.

    I just had that problem in my honda civic, I replaced all the spark plugs and the spark plug wires - problem fixed

    Two things come to mind readily. Igniton timing is off, and is only running correctly when vacuum advance brings it close, or you have a large vacuum leak. The latter kind of jumps out at me due to the fact that you had work done on the vehicle and it is entirely possible that a vacuum line was left off afterwards.
