Hugh Laurie is great as House, he is a very good comedy actor too. I like him playing the part as he does. He has been well known in England since his University days. He was very good in 'Jeeves and Wooster' with Stephen Fry another varsity friend . The whole group of them seemed to make it in comedy and have moved on from there.

In most TV shows like that, the characters get more and more human as the series progresses. Give him a couple of years.

I think that being gruff and rude is who House is. I wouldn't like him to completely change, however i do like those special, rare moments where it seems like a weakness and we see some compassion. If it was an everyday person the affect just wouldn't be as grand.

Nope. It would wreck the premise of the show. I can go for him having more of a conscience, but not actually becoming nicer.

I think that House being nice would totally change his character...i adore the rare moments where he is caring and nice, but all in all i prefer his jackass demeanor :D

No, he should stay exactly as he is. The only thing I wish is that he would have gotten together with Cameron, (or, now, at the very least, Cuddy). I think a woman would soften him just a tad, which wouldn't hurt too much. But, his perfect match is Cameron.
