Though not nearly as poisonous, the mango is related to poison ivy, believe it or not--also to the East India Ink Tree, though I don't expect that you would come into contact with that.

It's the resin on the outside skin of the mango, mostly near the stem, that some people are allergic to.

I have, but I don't particularly like it. I love the inside though so I don't see why I should spoil the taste.

Personally, yes I do. I never knew it wasn't supposed to be eaten, so my whole life I ate it until somebody pointed out I wasn't supposed to; I've carried on because I quite enjoy it. I also eat the wax on cheese...in fact it's usually better if I'm not left alone while eating!

Not on real mangoes, no. Eww. I have biten through it to pull the skin back when I have not had a knife with me. It tasted bitter.

That said, in some areas of the midwestern U.S. certain groups call green peppers (bell peppers) 'Mangoes'. So, on THAT, yes, I eat the skin.

Eww...you could try, but it would taste similiar to leather. Don't try to eat the pit in the middle either.

The skin has a wonderful texture that's full of fiber, I've grown up to eat the skin-it helps with diarhea.. ;)

No. I'd rather not ingest pesticides. But do they use pesticides on mangoes?

I just had a realllllly ripe mango. The skin was very soft and edible...easy as a peach. It was wonderful. A less ripe mango I would never have tried it. It was delicious and soft. I could not detect skin from fruit while I was enjoying it. I washed it with soap and water first. Then I looked here to see if it was OK to do. That was hours ago, I am not sick, it was not bitter. IT WAS GREAT! I will also wait until the fruit is really ripe and eat it like an apple or a peach with the peel on from now on.
