What is the meaning and origin of the Russian surname "Agaphonov"?

    It is probably a form of "Agafonov."

    "Agafonov in this case is last name. Agafon is a strange name. There are two theories on where it came from. One says that it came from Asian Aga Khan. The other one is that it came from Agafon. That is an equivalent of English Agathon. Russians are known to Russify Foreign names. So it may be true in either case."
