As a former crewman aboard an aircraft carrier, I can neither confirm nor deny the presence or absence of nuclear weaponry on board our carriers.

However a carrier DOES carry aircraft capable of delivering a nuclear weapon, so I guess it all boils down to whether or not you feel lucky. Well, do you... punk?

Some aircraft carriers do carry them and I believe that there are some tactical / battlefield nuclear missiles on board some of the Gulf carriers.
Most nuclear weapons are long range intercontinental missiles that can be launched from subs or from the home country.
If an aircraft carrier is destroyed, the nukes do not detonate, as far as I understand it.

US aircraft carriers are capable of carrying nuclear weapons, but the USN will neither confirm nor deny whether any ship is carrying nukes at any time. France, the UK, and India do not have aircraft deployable nukes. Pakistan and China do not have aircraft carriers. The Russians may or may not deploy nukes on their carrier.

Some do, some don't. It's been U.S. policy for many years to neither confirm or deny the presence of nuclear weapons on ships or aircraft. That was the main reason the ANZUS treaty broke down and the U.S. and New Zealand are no longer "allies", just "friends". +2

Isn't, "I can neither confirm nor deny the presence or absence of nuclear weaponry on board" the reply all sailors are instructed to give to anyone asking about weapons aboard their ship?

I spent four years married to a sailor who was on a newly commissioned ship. Wives and families were told that was what we should say if anyone asked us about the ship. haha Well they called it the boat.

While it was the policy during the Cold War to neither confirm nor deny the presence of nukes aboard any ship, Pres. George H.W. Bush cancelled the nuclear mission for all Navy forces except SSBN submarines. Today there are no nuclear weapons or nuclear-capable aircraft aboard our carriers.
