    Agafon means kindly, so the name means "son of kindly." “Ov”, “off”, “in” and “ev” at the end of a Russian surname indicate the surname means “son of ____” (whatever). It should also be noted that “off” is often the “English” version of “ov.” The problem with some of these names is that it is hard to tell whether or not the name is literal (it means, literally, "son of kindly") or not (it means son of a guy named "Agafon") http://heraldry.sca.org/paul/a.html
