Try these and see if they will help, one one them should help you find out what it is.

    WHAT’S ON MY PC

One of the best pieces of FREE software there is today that will show you what is on your computer is known as: Belarc once it is downloaded you simply run and time you wish to see what is installed on your PC, from OS to Model, hardware, software, hot fix’s and the Keys to software on PC. This makes it a valuable program in that you can run it every so often and print off and save for you keys if for no other reason.

Another good FREE software is CPU ID which when run will identify what CPU is on any motherboard, can be run from a jump drive even.

    http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
Operating Systems: Runs on Windows Vista, 2003, XP, 2000, NT 4, Me, 98, and 95. Browsers: Requires IE 3 or Netscape 3, and higher versions. Also runs on Opera, Mozilla, and Firefox. File size: 1681 KB. ** just a plain and simple program to run and use, for those who might not be so tech savy

This is a more detailed site than Belarc, have not used myself but have checked out the site and can see that it offers many detailed options, for those who are more tech savy

    http://www.cpuid.com/
This is a fairly complete CPU identification utility

You can always go to control panel, system icon, general tab for some basic information also.
These instruction will help you look for what file/documents you have or maybe you need one certain file, this is a way to find it.

    1) Start up My Computer and navigate to your downloaded software folder
    2) Click on View and select details
    3) Click on View and select Choose Details
    4) Select Date Accessed
    5) Compare Date Accessed and Date Modified
    6) If Date Accessed is later than Date Modified, then you executed it.

FREE software, go to these sites to find software that will do many things for you, just depends on what you looking for from virus protection to child safety, program for you jump drive and the list goes on.

    www.snapfiles.com
Go to the freeware section unless your looking for software for a jump drive then look at the top of page where it says features and click that tab, you will see on next page:
Handy programs for your stick drive.
    Next try:
    www.pcworld.com
Look at top of page where it says downloads and click, next page type in the search box and hit enter, brings up pages of what you’re looking for.
    ***
You will also see shareware, trial stuff too along with the Freeware.

Just to offer an alternative program to what rameystarman suggested, give System Information for Windows a try too. It's stand-alone, meaning it doesn't require installation.

There is a free program called Everest that will give you like an X-Ray or Fingerprint of everything inside your computer, including links to the manufacturers of the components inside. Here is a link:

You can go to "system information". Once that is loaded you just have to click "display" (it's a tab) and it will go you loads of info, including what kind it is.
