  • he is buried in near india
  • Anything is possible but what do you have to back up the theory?
  • It's not really possible. The Roman system was efficient for several reasons, but major punishment (such as flogging, crucifixion, gladiator, or just outright killing) was the main reason. If the person to be executed was found out to be alive, those responsible for executing him would be killed in his place. So with this in mind, the Romans were very good at making sure that convicts were dead. Also note that the other convicts had their legs broken to hasten the killing process (Just wiki crucifixion). The soldiers came to Jesus and saw that he was dead, so breaking his legs was not needed. To make sure of this, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side. Out flowed "water" (back then, clear substances were called water) and blood, evidence of excess fluid gathering around his lungs and heart. In addition, you know how Jesus said "It is finished"? Yeah, he knew death was upon him. How? He felt his heart beat change. He lost a ton of blood due to the flogging and hematidrosis. This produces hypovolemic shock, which will kill if left untreated. If Jesus survived the cross, he would still have to deal with a weakened heart, dehydration and blood loss.
  • In addition to ShinyBidoof1's answer, let me also point out that had Jesus simply been revived, then He would not have been able to walk with two of his disciples to Emmaus which was about four miles from Jerusalem. Remember, the Romans had driven spikes through His hands and feet (probably actually his wrists and ankles) when they crucified Him. Without some sort of miraculous repair, it is doubtful that Jesus would have been able to walk that far just three days later.
  • No it's not possible. He was stabbed in the chest to make sure that he was indeed dead. Jn 19:34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
  • I think you have hit the nail on the head with your question: this is the only logical explanation as resurrection is medically IMPOSSIBLE. He was just in some form of coma (if he existed). There are so many stories about people who were declared dead who suddenly 'came to life' in the morque. And all the people who have been burried alive because they were declared dead in the past. This explains the scratches on inside lids of coffins found when graves were digged up. Today, we have EEG and flat line diagnosis to check whether people are really brain dead, something they did not have in the past. Unfortunately the Gospel writers never mentioned whether Jesus still had a pulse, no one noted pupillary reactions, his ocular motor reflexes, his motor responses that may persist in some reversible comas, no one even noted listening to his heart according to the gospels. No one noted listening to his lungs and no one noted presence or absence of corneal reflexes. No one noted muscle tone. So yes, it is highly probable that if Jesus existed, he didn't die on the cross. The resurrection is either a fantasy or a false belief. Resurrection is impossible- after a few hours of death our brain turns semi-liquid and this is irriversible. Possibilities: 1. Jesus existed but did not die on the cross. 2. Jesus existed and died on the cross and remained dead; there was no resurrection. 3. Jesus never existed. 4. Jesus existed but was never crucified.
  • As far as I'm aware, the separation of plasma (the clear/straw yellow coloured fluid in blood) and the red blood cells is an indication of death. That and the fact of fluid gathering around the heart and lungs. The Romans crucified literally tens of thousands of citizens throughout their empire, so I don't think they're going to misdiagnose too many cases of 'death'. In this case, by spearing Jesus' side and getting 'blood and water', it was a confirmation that he was indeed dead, and probably had been for at least a short time. The bible accounts say that because he was without sin, he was free of decay, so there would be no deterioration of his physical body even when he was dead. The scourging the bible describes is truly feral. The subject is chained to a flogging pole, and is then dealt thirty nine lashes (forty minus one) with various torture devices. These were whips with various sharp/jagged pieces of metal or glass or such woven into the leather straps. These whips would literally peel the flesh from your body. By the time they'd finished with him, he would have been lying in a pool of his own blood - literally. With the "medicine" they had back then, after the scourging he would have been in danger of bleeding to death regardless of what was done to him. He then carried a cross quite a distance through the city and up the hill to Golgotha - the place of the skull. He was so weakened from lack of blood already that he couldn't carry the cross all the way - hence the mention of Simon of Cyrene being made to carry Jesus' cross. Crucifixion is not about blood loss or pain. it is about suffocation. Whether the hands are out to the side or up above the head does not matter. By staking the feet and making it agonising to hold your weight on them, it means your arms and chest take all the weight. It strains all the muscles in your chest - the ones that make you breathe. Death is by slow, painful suffocation as you cannot breathe anymore, and your lungs fill with fluid. The reason they broke legs was to stop any who were using them to hold themselves up, and so prolong their death. Breaking the legs made it impossible to take the weight off the arms, and so suffocation would come quickly afterwards... The Romans were particularly cruel with their crucifixions. Research indicates that the stakes for the hands were not driven through the palms - where the webbing of the skin could just tear and pull free of the stake. It was driven through between the two arm bones at the wrist - right through the nerve that runs into the hand. This had the effect of causing excruciating agony, and causing the thumbs to contract downwards and the fingers curl around in a grotesque fist. So, if Jesus did live, and was executed as is stated in the bible, there is no way he could have survived. And even if he did just pass out, he would have died of blood loss in the tomb through the open wound that would have been his entire back. Jesus is not just mentioned in the bible - there are several contemporary historians who note his existence. Josephus is a prime reference. Now many people scoff at that and say he was unreliable, but if historians take his word as accurate in his accounts of events such as the Jewish rebellion at Massada, you have to give his work credence. You can't just chuck out one chapter because you don't want to believe it. Either everything he said was true, or none of it was. The fact that he has accurate accounts says that it's true... End of story. It is not possible that Jesus died and did not resurrect. If his body was free of decay as the bible says, then his body would still be in one piece today - flesh and all... Think about that for a moment. The fact that there is no body is more evidence that he did raise, rather than that he didn't. Bob Blaylock raises a good point - if Jesus had only three or four days before had his back stripped of flesh, nearly bled to death, been impaled with a spear and several rather large metal stakes, and spent three days/nights in a dirty, cold tomb, there was no way he could be up and about to walk the several miles to Emmaus. Injuries like that would have crippled a survivor for life, and even if he did recover, it would have taken months to be well enough to get around again. Resurrection might be medically impossible, but if Jesus is real and is who he said he is, then God is real, and he can resurrect anybody he pleases, medicine or not. The thing is that NOBODY can disprove God, as much as nobody can prove him. So nobody has the right to say it's just fallacy and that's the truth. Prove it. That simple. Just because one doesn't believe in something, doesn't mean it isn't real. That person could actually be the one with the wrong belief. For centuries people 'knew' that the earth was flat. They knew wrong. So in summary, with the 'evidence' presented, there is no way that Jesus survived the crucifixion experience.
  • Below is part of what HQ (Holy Qur'an) has to say on the matter, in chapter 4 verses 156 and 157 which speak about the enemies of Jesus and his mother, according to Mr. Pickthall's translation. Hope it helps. HQ 4:156. And because of their disbelief and of their speaking against Mary a tremendous calumny; HQ 4:157. And because of their saying: We slew the Messiah Jesus son of Mary, Allah's messenger. They slew him not nor crucified him, but it appeared so unto them; and lo! those who disagree concerning it are in doubt thereof; they have no knowledge thereof save pursuit of a conjecture ; they slew him not for certain.
  • Now see that is why they stabbed him in the side... when your dead your blood seperates. So when they stuck a lance in his side the water and blood came out seperately. But nice try... really... *rolls eyes*
  • The "Swoon" theory has been proposed before, but soundly dismissed by medical experts, who have examined the texts and declared that it would be impossible for someone with the amount of blood loss and trauma as Jesus had, plus specific wounds, could lie untended for three days, revive, push an enormous stone away, look quite normal to a woman who knew him well, walk to Emmaus then walk back to Jerusalem.
  • If Jesus did not die and raise from the dead then you and I would die and go to hell without hope because we would not be redeemed! Jesus' death was for our atonement and His ressurection was to conquer death and be our Lord, Saviour, mediator, and high Priest unto God the Father. I hope that this is helpful -In the Master's service. Thank you and God bless you!
  • It is not possible considering the fact he was crucified and the amount of blood loss would cause death. Also the fact he was in a tomb for three days. If he was alive in the tomb he would have died from infection.
  • no way. when someone dies, there is the stench of death on them. plus alot of people wanted him dead so im pretty sure they wouldn't have overlooked something like that. besides when the soldier went to break his legs, he saw that Jesus was already dead so he just stuck a spear in his side instead.
  • Well looking at these answers it appears it isn't. However, I wanted to congratulate you on a question that would really pose quite the twist upon religious history. But nonetheless, had he survived something like what he went through only to wake up on Sunday, would be quite the miracle itself.
  • It's impossible, because in the Bible it clearly states Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins...the Bible is truth!
  • no becous in the bible the roman solgers stabd hem to make shur
  • It is possible and has been argued about for a long time. The bible suggests that Jesus was removed from the cross at a time when Messianic law would have forbid the handling of dead flesh. Secondly, his body was released to Joseph of Arimathea, and taken to his private tomb, where only Joseph and Mary of Bethany were privy to Jesus' actual state of health, or lack thereof;
  • If all was possible that Jesus didn't actually die on the cross, then it must be possible that our sins that Jesus was meant to swipe clean of or get rid of was never accomplish. So our sins that Jesus was suppose to die for is still yet burden within our chest.
  • could be right mate, I fell asleep on a tuesday once, and didn't get up till the sunday, wait . . . am i jesus? I thought he was my boy
  • NO...that is nothing more than saying God's gift {BIBLE}to us is nothing but LIES. This is why we have so many denominations, man just does not take it at face value. They have debated EVERY verse and will do so to the END.
  • im a muslim and the quran tells us that jesus(pbuh) dident die at all but judas the one who betrayed him took his place and Allah put the the likeness of jesus(pbuh) upon him. And if ppl belive in the other miracles of god like: the openeing of the red sea, giving life to the dead, even creating the world surely ppl will belive in a little miracle like this think about it read history books and you will find that even jesus(pbuh)mother mary mistakened judas for jesus(pbuh) Byeeeeeeeeeeee ps Another thing to think about if my memory serves me correct god protected all his prophets and you belive he was his son (which we dont) surely you would protect your one and only son i know i would. The answer is simple HE DIDENT DIE you couldent kill never ever.
  • They stuck a spear in his side, I would've woken up, if I were unconcious, and someone stuck me in the side with a spear...He was dead.
  • This is my take on the whole thing....I think that the bible has stories in it. Stories written by people who were creative. I think that these stories were meant to have a moral, and you're supposed to get whatever it is you need to get out of them. I'm not saying that some of this stuff didn't happen, but that these writers took liberties and maybe they're not all "exactly" what happened. Just like how you have to interpret the meaning of other writings, and a lot of peoples interpretation is different. So maybe the story of Jesus dying on the cross then coming back is flourished a bit so that the reader can interpret and get what they need to out of the story. I don't necessarily think it is to be all taken literally. (Not to mention what may have been mis-translated or left out whether on purpose or accidentally) Maybe the whole story of Jesus is made up. Maybe the whole thing is a hoax, and some people were laughing their asses off while they wrote it knowing people would take it literally. I'm not saying that's what I think, I'm just saying nobody really knows. So personally, I believe that it's more of a tool to help you figure out moral answers that you may need, and if it helps you, then that's all that matters!
  • possible ONLY if you do not believe in GOD'S WORD...
  • The pierced his side with a spear and blood and water flowed from the wound. He had been deceased long enough for his blood to separate.
  • Well, if Jesus could survive a Jewish beating, Roman scourging, crucifixion, getting speared, and getting left for dead in a cave for three days, I would say he fairly well proved to be the Son of God anyway, wouldn't you?
  • Possible perhaps, but unlikely - and he certainly couldn't have done it without help.
  • Of course it's possible. Let's take the story more or less at face value. He's given a sponge soaked in vinager to drink from. He was stabbed in the side to. He was buried by his mother and other friends/family in his uncle's toumb. You can use vinager to make a tincture of herbs (Atropa belladonna or Deadly Nightshade is one candidate and was used in ancient Egypt logn before) that can induce a deep, maybe even coma like in someone already so weakened, sleep. Such herbs were known in that place at that time. The stab could have been intentionally superficial so as to keep him from getting kneecapped and/or examined too closely. And the burial prep by allies - though perfectly common - could have also served to keep his enemies from looking too closely. I'd say that the whole story is far from a given - but assuming her was crusified then the above scenario is an awful lot more likely than literal death from 3 days and then getting up for a visit with friends.
  • Absolutely not. The bible says he died and He ascended to the Father. I know the next question would be..how do we know the bible is correct? Take a look around..listen to the news (if you can stand it). In revelations it says (referring to the latter days before His return), there would be a huge turning away from the church, (Chistanity). Daughters will turn against mothers, mothers against daughters, killings, sexual imorality...I could go on forever. (understand that I am not quoting it word for word just an example of what it is saying). In this country we have more useless killings of other human beings than ever before. Men can marry men now and women can marry women...but the most obvious proof that lets me know that Christ did die and rose up as scripture says, is the bible says that in the latter days the name of Jesus would not be allowed in public places..we are already there in some areas but the next step is going to be no more open prayers by christians. This pattern is already in the making. Jesus has been placed on the "back burner" sort of speak, by the world. Any other belief is allowed as long as it is not Christianity..this is in the bible. Thre are a lot of evidince that He is who He says He is and did rise from the dead but it would take a long time and a lot of space. Read revalations and also there are books about Revelations. Talk to a minister who is ordained minister not one that just talks with big words that will confuse you but one who is sincere and wants to make sure you understand what the book of revelation is saying. I hate to listen to preachers who think they have to use big words just because they have a college degree. Excuse my type o's..I'm sure there are some mispelled words also.
  • The scientists have already answered this question by the prohesies he fulfilled. for Any man to fulfill all of the prophesies written before he was born the ratio is 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 to 1 I believe Jesus was who he said and believe me he was not a lier. • You really think the Romans would have allowed him OFF the cross if he were alive.
  • With a lovely swig of vinegar and a spear poke to the vitals it was quite clear that he had been crucified there. Oh, the Romans made sure of that.
  • Lol if that's what went on he's one tough dude, what with getting shanked and bludgeoned and beaten and all.
  • As others have mentioned, when the Roman soldiers came to break the legs of the three condemned men, (to hasten their deaths), they saw that Jesus was already dead. One of the soldiers pierced his side and 'blood and water came out'. John 19:34 The fact that his blood had begun to separate, (clear fluid = plasma, red fluid = red blood cells), indicates that, yes, he was dead. It also suggests his heart may have ruptured. Although the bible doesn't say WHY the soldier stabbed him,... he possibly did so to confirm that Jesus was indeed DEAD and NOT only unconscious. Apparently, Jesus did not REACT to being pierced, thus confirming for the soldier, and for us, that he was dead.
  • Well, his executioners would have been executed if he had, so you can be sure they made sure the job was done right. Just the flaying that was done before the cruxifiction would have been enough. From what I have read, the Romans tied bits of bone and other sharp objects to the end of the lashes so that they would gouge away the flesh when they hit. There were multiple lashes, so each strike was actually more like eight or nine stikes, and he get 39 lashes. It was not uncommon for this punishment alone to expose internal organs. Many prisoners did not survive flaying. Then that mascerated back was laid against the cross and his ankles and wrists nailed to the cross, severing the nerves that enervated the hands and feet. So even if he survived, he would never have walked again. Cruxifiction killed by suffocation. The prisoner had to push himself up by his pierced ankles and pull by his pierced wrists to get a breath. Eventually, exhaustion set in and they could no longer push up, leading to suffocation. If they needed to speed things up, they broke the prisoners legs so they couldn't push up. As the passover was starting, they did speed things up, breaking the legs of the two thieves. But when they came to Jesus, he was already dead. Because the Roman executioners faced execution themselves if they failed to kill the prisoner, they didn't leave it to chance. One of them thrust his spear into Jesus heart to make good and sure he was dead. Now, these are soldiers, trained to kill. You can bet he knew how to hit the heart. But the proof is in the blood and water that poured from Jesus side. Basically, that tells you that the spear pierced the pericardium, which was full of fluid from heart failure, brought on by the stresses of cruxifiction. So no, he didn't faint and then wake up on Sunday.
  • Either unconscious or passed out drunk
  • Really, the crowd has said about all that could be said about debunking this popular heresy. When you read stuff like Da Vinci Code, and research the holy grail, you come upon such malarky. The people who had special interests to support would, naturally, make up fantastic stories of 'miraculous' and 'secret' nature to build their 'evidence'. The Merovingian Dynsaty is based on such a lie: that Jesus had a daughter by Magdalene, and the disciples smuggled them to France. They founded the dynasty of 'divine succession'. Some say Jesus was killed on the cross, others say not - this other lie is just a step further along. A documentary on this subject of the Holy Grail (Jesus' baby - and Mary was the grail) proved it false by DNA analysis of one of the Merovingian queens claiming the lineage. And really - the fact that only 1 in 4 made it through flogging to get crucified should disprove anyone's opinion that Jesus was 'weak' either. The other details have been well explained.
  • By all accounts, the disciples were convinced that Jesus had not just come back to life, but had been transfigured into the eternal, incorruptible, deathless, super-human, glorious resurrection body. Given that Jesus had been beaten, flogged to near death, crucified, and then impaled with a spear, if by some chance he had survived and been resuscitated, I don't think just 2 days later he would have been able to inspire that much awe and marvel -- or even walk.
  • Jesus was teaching his diciples the meaning about his suffering, death and resurrection. He knew he will die and rise again. He also knew many will not be able to accept it. Even with miracles happening before their very eyes, some will find something unbelievable about his claims. The happenings will not mean a thing unless the person wants it to be a miracle..when that happens..everything Jesus had spoken or had predicted before his death will make sense.
  • no he didnt he lived. why wasnt where they left him? yes, he didnt die
  • It's more plausible than resurection. And less likely than grave robbers returned and hauled his corpse off.
  • That sounds like a scenario out of a Gnostic Gospel. Scripture is very clear that Jesus died on the cross, was buried, and rose again on the third day.
  • Jesus had been flogged with Roman flagella for one stroke less than a death sentence, beaten repeatedly by his captors, nailed to a cross, crucified (resulting in instantaneous dislocation of the shoulders), and impaled with a Roman pylum. The description in Luke and John indicates a massive edema of the heart. 2 days later he appeared NOT as a broken, bruised, bloodied and grievously wounded survivor of a near-death ordeal, but as the all-glorious transfigured incorruptible and immortal "new Adam" of the new creation. A mere man who had merely swooned and then been resuscitated, wouldn't have been able to stand on his own, much less pass through walls and locked doors, and vanish and appear at will.
  • The Second Treatise of the Great Seth found in the Dead Sea Scrolls states Jesus walked away from the crucifixion because it was a farce. A man named Simon willingly took his place. http://www.gnosis.org/naghamm/2seth.html Another interesting point is that the channeling of a entity named "Seth" by Jane Roberts stated the same thing.
  • No. Scripture said that Jesus died and that settles it for me.
  • no. when he came back the disciples didn't even recognize him because the father gave him a new body.
  • Jesus had been beaten and lashed and deprived of sleep for 24 hours. Then nailed to a cross with a crown of thorns on his head. The blood loss would have been fatal. The stress on his heart, already weakened by blood loss and trauma would have only lasted a very short time. From http://www.frugalsites.net/jesus/death.htm "Thus, it remains unsettled whether Jesus died of cardiac rupture or of cardiorespiratory failure. However, the important feature may be not how he died but rather whether he died. Clearly, the weight of historical and medical evidence indicates that Jesus was dead before the wound to his side was inflicted and supports the traditional view that the spear, thrust between his right ribs, probably perforated not only the right lung but also the pericardium and heart and thereby ensured his death. Accordingly, interpretations based on the assumption that Jesus did not die on the cross appear to be at odds with modern medical knowledge."
  • sure it is. people have mistakenly been pronounced dead for centuries, though it's far less common in modern times.
  • The NT was compiled with books that agreed with the teachings of Paul. Even so, it is still possible to see from the NT itself that Jesus did not actually die on the cross. 1 Does God ignore prayers? James 5:16 says "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" How much more so then if the righteous man is someone considered by many to be God's "only begotten son" and the prayer so fervent that according to Luke 22:43-44 it was the prayer of a man in such an agony that "he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground" If, according to Ezekiel 18:21, God can respond to even the wicked sinner then why not to Jesus, believed to be totally sinless. Paul appears to confirm that prayers did not fall on deaf ears. He says in Hebrews 5:7 "Who, in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto HIM THAT WAS ABLE TO SAVE HIM FROM DEATH, and was HEARD in that he feared." 2 Here are some firm indications from the Bible itself that Jesus was spared death: 2.1 the prophecy in Matthew 12:40 that Jesus would be alive in the tomb, not dead 2.2 An assurance in the form of an angel from heaven, strengthening him. Luke 22:43 2.3 Pilate’s wife told in a dream that no harm should come to Jesus Matthew 27:19 2.4 Pilate finds Jesus, not guilty! Matthew 27:24 2.5 God saves the legs of Jesus from being broken! John 19:33 2.6 Jesus did not stay on the cross for more than three hours Mark 15:33 2.7 darkness covered the whole land, thus veiling God's rescue from prying eyes Mark 15:33 2.8 Pilate wondered how Jesus could be dead in such a short time Mark 15:44 2.9 Pilate does not issue any order to ensure Jesus is actually dead 2.10 Pilate agrees to Jesus being removed from the cross despite doubting he is dead 2.11 Jesus is not delivered to his enemies but to those who cared for him Mathew 27:58 2.12 Jesus is placed in a spacious tomb not buried in a grave Mark 15:44 2.13 The Jews realising Jesus might not be dead want a guard on the tomb to ensure there's no resuscitation Matthew 27:62-64 2.14 The request for a guard comes the next day giving enough time to resuscitate Jesus Matthew 27:62 2.15 Jesus must have recovered by Sunday morning when Mary Magdalene alone (Mark 16:9 and John 20:1) went to the tomb "to anoint him", Mark 16:1 2.16 for a resuscitated body to move it would need the shroud to be unwound and the stone covering the tomb to be moved, not so for a reserructed body 2.17 When Mary wept outside the tomb it must have been for the living Jesus not his dead body John 20:11 2.18 A reserructed Jesus would be in no danger from anyone so there would be no need for Jesus to be so heavily disguised even Mary couldn't recognise him John 20:15 2.20 Mary asks the "gardener" the whereabouts of the recovering Jesus so she can TAKE HIM away (not a dead decomposing body) John 20:15 2.21 Jesus tells Mary that he has not yet ASCENDED unto the Father, meaning he still hasn't died John 20:17 2.22 The disciples then heard that Jesus was ALIVE and had been seen by Mary Magdalene Mark 16:11 2.23 for the remaining evidence see http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/1053437
  • No, but it's a hell of a lot more likely than coming back from the dead.
