  • seriously, isnt goth over with yet? I thought all the goths turned "emo"
  • Because teenagers are obsessed with "fitting in", and for them goth is either something they fit into or really don't want to fit into.
  • Because some teenagers are fools who like to use sterotypes to define everything and are afarid of doing something that fits into a sterotype they don't like.
  • I dunno. When I was in school there were certain cliques which were always there and probably always will be: the jocks, the preppies, the nerds, etc. And then we had the greasers and the ginkers. Greasers were non-college bound types who were heavily into cars, bikes, etc. Ginkers were partiers, heavy partiers. Oh, and you had to choose between Jethro Tull and Yes. You couldn't like them both. Unless you were a musician who could play both. Don't ask me why.
  • Because of things like this: http://encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php/Goth
  • Because teenagers are overly concerned with appearance and fitting in. They are self-conscious to a point of ridiculousness.
  • I think they are just concerned as any group. What about those girls who show up to high school looking like they woke up at 4am to style their hair and apply their makeup and iron their clothes? It's just a teenager thing I'm sure; they seem to be the most obsessed with appearances out of any age group I can think of.
  • I haven't read any of the other answers but, i'm 13 years old and I think it's just because they are trying to fit in with everyone else, or they do it for attention. it's all very stereotypical and that's why you can't really be 'yourself' without someone labeling you. I personally hate it and that's why i don't pay attention to any of it and choose my friends very wisley. =]
  • its the classic identity crisis. they don't feel like they fit in anywhere so they "make up" their own thing. This eventually becomes a group of people which in turn must find a way to fit in with each other. So.. the rest of the group is goth they have to be goth therefore they become obsessed with that identity(goth). Alternatively, there could be a goth night somewhere that they are going to. maybe they don't let you in if you don't look goth. The understanding of the obsession, however, is strictly based on the individual's viewpoint. In other words, an outsider cannot "understand" their obsession. As I highly individualized person, I can't see why it would be a big deal. I don't try to fit in to the group I just do my own thing and if people like great they can join in. If they don't, oh well, its not my loss.
