88 acura legend. what would cause the timing belt to slip and lose time? Could it be something internal binding?

      Well, it's biggest problem, of course, is that it's a Honduh.

      But aside from that, if your timing belt is slipping, then I would say that most likely the problem is in the tensioner mechanism, which probably needs to be replaced.

      This is definitely not something to screw around with.  If you don't know what you're doing, take it to a mechanic that does.  Most Honduhs have interference engines, meaning that a failure in the timing belt can result in a catastrophic engine failure that can turn your motor into a very expensive piece of scrap metal.

    Other than the tensioner not working, it could also just be that the belt has begun to stretch, resulting in the bad timing. Either way, take it to a mechanic if you don't know what your doing. A while back my parents had a Bonneville that quit on the side of the road. When CAA came (the Canadian AAA) they boosted the car to get it going. This essentially destroyed the engine because the timing belt was messed up.

    If you have an Acura with a bad or slipped timing belt it bent the valves. You need to pull the head.
