  • Actually the majority of the earth's oxygen is generated by marine organisms - plankton and algae and such. If we cut down all trees it would certainly put a dint in the regeneration of oxygen through photosynthesis, but it wouldn't kill us. It would definitely be a sad place to live, though... no trees... *sniff, sniff* I think I'm gonna go cry now.
  • I think the vast amounts of carbon dioxide would kill most of the living things on earth. Plus the temperatures would rise a lot, which would probably kill off everything else.
  • We would be dead becasue life would not be sustainable on the planet, not anywhere. Even marine life would be gone because they are supported and fed on the benefits that flow from all the rivers into the seas. There are minerals and all sorts of things that get washed down from the rain perking through the soil and leaching, flowing down to rivers and finally into the oceans. With no trees, nothing is there to hold onto the soil. The fertile soil would either wash away or bake away and there would be nothing left. Nothing to filter toxin, nothing to 'breathe' new life to this earth.
  • Just awful....The whole planet will look like a dessert...quite depressing and life will eventually disappear.
  • Nothing. It suprisingly turns out. The atmosphere is big. Very. Very. Big. If all the oxygen producers in the world (and don't forget somewhere between 50% and 99% is due to phytoplankton in the sea) suddenly stopped, it would take tens of thousands of years before the atmosphere's composition changed much. It would take millions of years before the carbon dioxide became a problem.
  • We wouldn't have much...regardless that the atmosphere is considered to be BIG. We would probably be come depressed. The stench from all the dead animals and birds who depend upon TREES would rise and make us sick, probably physically and very likely sick at heart too. It would be a very sad place to live.
  • Well if we just cut down the trees and stacked them in massive piles somewhere, and we didn't burn them they wouldn't release the carbon dioxide they have trapped. If we limited it to just trees then there would be many bushes and shrubs and other plant life blanketing the earth to produce oxygen in addition to the phytoplankton in the sea. Basically we would be fine.
