Best place to live is right next door to me! Open spaces, so, not too close, I am there when you need me, and hope you would be the same for me, but not too close to cramp each other. Great community, not too far from the city, 5 minutes from town. Weather is okay, place is not too expensive to buy into yet, and we are in the green wedge so no residential developments to crowd us out.

I have been in a number of different countries. I am from the USA and can honestly say it is NOT my most favorite place to live. I would take Canada first as it is a much better place to live. Next would be Cost Rica or Nicaragua next, then portions of Mexico. Somewhere in the UK would be right in there as well. But really anywhere would be great as long as it satisfies my personal desires without too much intervention from government or others!

Repeated surveys of major cities show that Vancouver, Canada usually comes top for quality of life. Sydney and Melbourne, Australia, are usually pretty close to top as well. This does, of course, apply to cities and not the the countryside. These surveys are usually done by business oriented consultancies, publications, and university departments, so are oriented towards businessmen of above-average wealth.

I have lived all over the place. NY and the san francisco area (suburbs) are the best although expensive as fu*ck! I hate... hate... hate Florida. Tampa Bay especially.

You have asked the conundrum of all ages--- If there was a "Xanadu", we'd all be there. I've been to 72 countries so far and many more states, provinces and regions of the world and the USA--overall--is still #1 for me.

I think Finland is supposed to have a great quality of life. Canada too. But for me, it would have to be rural Ireland, probably Kilkenny area, or the Western Isles of Scotland.
