At times it was split between MacArthur(army) and Chester Nimitz(Naval and Marine Forces). It was Husband E. Kimmel at the time of Pearl Harbor.

For the US, Douglas Macarthur was appointed Supreme Allied Commander South West Pacific with Chester Nimitz of the Navy in charge of the rest of the theatre. The major allies of the US were known as the ABCD powers standing for Australia Britain China and the Dutch. Field Marshal Thomas Blamey was in charge of Australian forces and was Commander-in-Chief Allied Land Forces in the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) under American General Douglas MacArthur. Lord Louis Mountbatten. Archibald Wavell and Lord Louis Mountbatten were the head of the South East Asia Command coordinating the battles in Burma.
