  • Burn it is one way
  • Oops that's supposed to be your not you're. This question was asked to see how many people would really answer a NON "lame-o question"
  • Build a giant structure in orbit and somehow transfer/launch the garbage into it. That way we would clean our planet, and not litter/pollute the entire universe... just dartin' thoughts... lol Good question +
  • OK since there aren't going to be many takers, here's my thoughts on the subject. We take two really big societal problems and use one to solve the other. We begin by turning our prisons into huge recycling centers. We have the inmates go through the trash and seperate the burnable from the recycleable. The we have them turn the recycleable items into something useful for society. Make the prisoners work and therefore stay out of trouble while in prison, and clean up the earth at the same time.
  • I think space is going to turn out to be pretty much of a wash out. Deep space dumping seems promising. Whats one more floating piece of crap way out there each month? Garbage doesnt need food or entertainment for interstellar travel. Ya set the thing on autopilot and give it a good shove. Hopefully, It'll get hit by an asteroid out there and vaporised in the ensuing inferno. Then it'll be space-green friendly,too;-)
  • There is a new system of waste disposal being trialled in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, in order to reduce methane emissions. Recycling trucks go around once a week collecting recyclables, green waste goes to a composter, useable wastes (old beds, books, bits of machinery and computers etc) go to a transfer station where they are onsold to the public for a token price, the remainder go in the landfill. The landfill has been developed in such a way as to minimise methane emission and leachate drainage, which is bad for the environment (leachate = decomposing material + rainwater.) See the links below to see the Recycling policy and the construction of the Omarunui Landfill. http://www.napier.govt.nz/index.php?cid=council/waste_mini/waste_mini http://www.hastingsdc.govt.nz/rubbish/Omarunui/index.htm#part
  • Usable items get donated. Freecyclye.com exists to allow people to locate and donate to individuals used items. You can post items you need or wish to give away. So much that we use are replacement items, cars, computers, etc. and not consumables. Most large metro areas have recycle centers that re-use the materials. Personally, I think China has the right idea. They mold their garbage into bright plastic items and ship them to DOLLAR stores in the US.
  • My view of the "outer space" solution has been to build the cheapest possible receptacle that is launchable, fill it with the worst of the trash, and launch it to the sun... let it burn up as it approaches...
  • I think people are missing the obvious. We have several particularly nasty enemies around the globe.I say sneak a nice bargeload of garbage/recyclables into N.Korea, for example.Let King Kim and his henchmen enjoy the stench. That will keep them busy and out of our hair;THE KIND OF TREATMENT THEY SO RICHLY DESERVE!
  • I like the idea of just shooting all of our waste towards the sun since it's so big that even if we sent all of our waste to it for 1,000 years it would only be like throwing grains of sand in a fire pit. However, it's currently not feasible because we don't yet have a reliable or economical way of getting tons of waste out of Earth's orbit. With rocket propulsion, rocket fuel costs a lot and they're prone to failure at a significantly high rate. If we're going with that idea though, I think a better idea would be to dump it all on a less useful planet in our solar system such as Venus because that way, with Venus being closer to us, we might be able to recover the transport vehicle thus making it more economical.
