Once...in Charlottesville, VA - pretty much the most unlikely place for an earthquake to occur. The house shook a bit, but it was nothing major. I can't imagine what a *real* earthquake feels like.
Yes. A big, devastating one hit my country in 1976.
I was 9 at the time.
Yes,,In Mexico,,A couple of years ago;)
It was really Wild;)!!
Yes. When I was little.
Despite being in the UK - yes, dozens. All pretty small though.
We had a spate of them a few years back (which I was convinced was the Commonwealth stadium falling down as the epicentre was in Beswick...) and one about 6 months ago.
The Earth has moved a few times for me so, yes. + :o)
i live in California...so that means YES
Yes quite a big one in Italy in 1996
YES, TWICE. COULDN'T BELIEVE IT IN UPSTATE NY, BUT IT HAPPENED. I KNOW THERE'S A FAULT CLOSE ENOUGH LIKE MAYBE 100 MILES OR SO. THEY WERE SMALL AND BOTH IN THE MORNING. I ACTUALLY THOUGHT A TRUCK WAS GOING BY OUR HOUSE. LOL
Yes, the Landers quake in Southern California in 1992. Lot's of fun.
About 21 years ago in central New Jersey. It woke me up in the middle of the night.
2 earthquakes strong enough for not being able to walk. 2 hurricanes also.
I'm in the UK and have experienced 3 earthquakes! The 2nd one was the best.............erm.............worst!
yes, I felt an earthquake from the New Madrid fault all the way up in Northern Indiana
Many times. I live in northern California and grew up in the Philippines, which is on the other side of the Pacific Rim of Fire. So lots of shaking during my lifetime. :D
Many, but never serious enough to cause much damage. I have been known to wake up, realise there's an earthquake going on, and go straight back to sleep. I'm not myself when I'm sleepy! My parents still live in Greece and they had a biggish one in Feb. Apparently my bathroom mirror cracked in various places! Eek
Yep. The bigger ones are scarey and interesting! Feeling/hearing/seeing the normally stable world become violently active is a unique experience.
Beats the heck out of tornados, cyclones and floods though!
yep, didn't even know .. slept right through it and heard about it on the news the next day
Yes.
Yes, but it was so minor we did not realize that it was an earthquake until we heard the news the next day.
California born, raised and lived my whole life. Of *course* I've been through earthquakes.
Luckily for me, the house I grew up in was overbuilt (was 1.5 miles from 1994 Northridge quake, only cosmetic damage). So, I rode out the 1971 quake with no problems (I was also very young).
I also dodged the 1989 Loma Prieta quake (I was in Los Angeles) and the 1994 Northridge quake (I was in San Francisco).
All the other earthquakes I've experience have been much smaller.
.
.
.
Yes. 7.4. And I was in the shower at the time!
Last sunday. We had 2 of them in lake elsinore california.
Yea Iam from Manchester England and about 3 years ago we were in bed fast asleep and the whole bed started shaking and in the morning when we looked in the news there had indeed been an earthquake!!!
Yes I have and believe it or not it was right here in Ohio! They still talk about it; we just don't have them!!!!!
Yup, in California I went through many, though not the big one about 10 years back. It's a frightening sensation. All of a sudden the world beneath you starts to shake and in one second you're asking yourself if this is just a little disturbance or the way you die.
Having grown up in Southern California, I have experienced several.
Yes - many.
The biggest was the Loma Prieta quake of 1989.
I was in San Jose.
I'd rather ride out an earthquake than a hurricane or a tornado!
yes many. I rode out the one in '71. I was still sleeping when it hit and suddenly my bed was sliding all over the room and I could hear my Mom yelling "It's OK kids, it's ok" My sister said "oh shutup, it isn't ok." ha! The antlers on my brother's wall literally flew across the room to just miss him by a few feet. The main street of our town was leveled for the most part, as was a vast area above L.A. My brother got dressed and went out and volunteered to go door to door to warn folks to get out, as they thought the resivor was going to break and send a flood down. The Vet's Hospital was a mess also.
Been through many, many small ones from 3 pointers to 5's. It is weirdest outside the ground just kind of waves under your feet.
Lived on Vancouver Island on the west coast. So yep. A couple times when I was child. Once when watching Beauty and the Beast in theatres... the streets were cracked when we left the theatre.
Nope, never in my life D:
i have! i've been in numerous earthquakes in california, growing up, some quite strong (7+ richter). i was in one while on a visit to mexico city (5 richter), i was on the 25 floor cafe of the latin american tower drinking a coke with lime sherbet in it, when we began swaying side to side. looking down people were jumping out of cars and running for cover. wild... i was in a mild earthquake in alaska once, and once in hawaii just last september (tremor) and two in the mid-west U.S.
wow!!
here's a photo of some damage done by an earthquake i was in 1971. 65 people died

Yes twice in Ohio
eeh yaah... I'm a cali girl, so it's not really an unusual thing, only the big ones will like get my attention and can be scary.
I have never been in a earthquake. How was it?
I live in Anaheim, CA. Earthquakes happen pretty often, but we haven't had a big one for awhile. The last big one was I think--the Northridge Quake. But the Whittier Narrow's quake wasn't fun either.
Yes, but it was a small one...only around a 4.5. I live in Tennessee...not many people know there's a major fault line near here!
Yes- the Northridge, CA quake. January 17, 1994. IIRC the magnitude was 6.8. I live about 6 miles from the epicenter of that one.
October, 1987. I believe the epicenter was near Whittier, CA and the magnitude was in the high 5's.
I lived in the bay area during the 1989 Loma Prieta quake and it was not fun. The difference between a moderate quake and the big ones are so much different. I thought the ground was going to open up and swallow us, and I was a bay area native who had experienced many quakes before. My roomate at the time was also at the epicenter of the Northridge quake years later, so he is a quake magnet I suppose.
Yes in Vancouver, Los Angeles and Maui...
No, thank God
yes ofcourse! when we were in California.
It was quite a shaker. My wife just escaped serious injury on Highway 17 as she drove from El Cerrito to Fremont. She was in Oakland and had just passed over the collapsed portion of the road before it collapsed.
Only a minor one when I was staying in the Ahr valley in Germany, but it was enough to make the door bulge slightly.
No. I can't help but think it would be rather exciting.
yes stoned
I have not experienced an earthquake and I do not hope to do so in the future. However way back in 1975 when I was in the City of Tokyo, Japan I did experience a tremor while I was writing a letter to my wife. I noticed the table moved and I was a little unstable on my chair. I stopped writing immediately and went under the table as advised. I was glad it was only momentary and was over in no time at all.
I was eight (8) miles from the epicenter of a 4.8 in 1981. So close, you hadda actually "surf" the ground! Freaky!

Also, the Loma Preata (sp?) in '89 was quite a rush. My swimming pool had waves!

;-)
No, but I have been through blizzards, floods ,and hurricanes. I WOULD like to feel an earthquake at some point in my lifetime!

You're reading Have you ever experienced a really bad tornado, hurricane or earthquake?

Yeah, and I can't imagine how you'd react. hahahaha!

I think what scares me most about the big earthquakes is the noise. It sounds like a freight train is coming through the house. That and you don't know when the shaking is going to end. Wheee!

Yeah - really - and when you don't experience it very often...
