  • Rice, definitely.
  • Rice...brown or wild rice moreso than white, but any of those are better than potatoes.
  • Brown rice would be your best choice. It is very filling.
  • Brown rice or wild rice (which actually isn't rice at all) are far less likely to have a profound impact on your blood sugar (which stimulates insulin production and can lead to weight gain, energy loss, diabetes, and scads of other things) especially if you eat it with protein or fat to slow the absorption of carbohydrates. Potatoes have a very high glycemic impact, meaning that when you eat a potato your blood sugar will rise very quickly.
  • If you must go with potatoes, choose sweet potatoes! You can prepare them the same ways as regular potatoes, but they have WAY more nutritional value, and are all around better for you.
  • Brown rice would be better, but potatoes aren't bad. It really depends on how you prepare them, and whether you end up smothering them in some high-fat sauce. Sweet potatoes are all right, too. Yams are very high in carbohydrates, and not recommendable for a diet. You might also try using turnips as potato substitute. They have virtually no carbohydrates or starches.

  • No food is inherently evil. It is something you project on it. Get over it and just eat food and by that I mean something your great grandmother would recognize as food. So rice and potatoes both qualify.
  • Brown rice- I wouldn't eat white rice while dieting. If you must have potatoes, I would only have them boiled, and without dressing.
