    very common fault is dry joints on the power regulator transistors, they are the ones that have metal heat sincs on them

    the problem in these tv's is usually loose components on the circuit board. believe it or not, it is better to leave a tv on CONSTANTLY for years than to turn it on and off. each time the tv cycles on and off, the components heat up and cool off over and over again. Over time, a component will separate slightly from the circuit board due to this expansion and contraction, thus causing a problem....tv's with this problem are usually working just fine when they were switched off and then when they are turned back on... nothing.
    A re-solder will usually fix this problem. If you are handy, do it yourself just go through each resistor, diode, etc and re-melt each solder joint. I'll bet this fixes the problem.
