I had the same problem with a stray dog who found his way into our lives. Until we could afford the $500 dental work he needed I would grind up his food in a blender. You can also pick up powder with nutrients from a pet store that is mixed with water if the first idea doesn't work. BTW my stray guy has had his teeth removed and is the best buddy I have ever had! Good Luck

Your cat is effectively starving. You have to find a solution, I'm sure you realise how urgent this is. My first stop would be the pet shop/supermarket for some wet food. Kitten food is probably a good place to start as it's very mushy and has more gravy than normal cat food. If she has bad teeth she may well be suffering with toothache which won't help her appetite, poor thing.

I would also contact the local charitable vet centre. There are free or subsidised vets all over britain and america. You may have to make a contribution but if you are really broke then it should be judged accordingly.

Sadly, if you don't have the funds to have your cat treated and can't find a vet who will treat cheaply or free then yhou must seriously consider having her put to sleep. You really can't allow your lovely cat to starve to death, it would be much kinder to end her suffering. I don't say this lightly, it's a very difficult situation when you have a pet and you are broke but ultimately they rely on you as a child would.

well if it cant eat dry food then it will lack vitimins and nutrition (thus is why its under weight) buy some vitimins from walmart and break one up every day and crumble it up in some soft food, then buy her some powdered kitten milk ( it has everything it needs) these things are fairly inexpensive so it should work^^ best of luck and if you need any other advice my e-mail is kryssikins@hotmail.com

I suppose she has problem eating dryfood because it's crunchy. Why not soften the dry food by soaking them in some water ?

My cat also won't eat dry food. I feed her canned food as well as cat milk (Whiskas)..it is full of vitamins and keeps her healthy!

Take the dry food, and add a can of water packed tuna to it ( includeing All the water fromt the can ) put it in a blender and mix until it's a paste, like bably foor. You should add a jar of all meat baby food, or some plain cottage cheese to help your cat. A feline multi vitamin mushed and added in will help, as well as those powered kitten milk formulas. ( but warning not all cats likie the taste of those feline multivitamins, you might want to get her well fed for a while before tyring them, also too much vitamin intake at one meal can upset their stomachs )

Offer your cat fresh food several times a dazy - a lot of small meals will help keep her stomach from getting upset. If you want to make up a large batch of food all at once, put the extra in the fridge and thin with a little hot water before serving - never serve cold food, cats won't eat it - gently microwave it till just warm/ room temp.

On the jars of baby food- make sure they are all meat and check the ingredients list - make sure the ingredients lists does NOT include onion / onion powder - onion is piosonous to cats )

If been doing feline rescue for over thirty years and used this to help them gain weight - use the best dry cat food you can find - Iams, Science Diet, Eukanuba - and if you can afford it, instead of just canned tuna, blend the dry food with one of those brands canned cats foods. They are all some of the best quality foods around.

The best advice is to take your cat to a vet - in the long run the cost and pain your cat is in could both be far less. Look up your local SPCA group and aske them to remcommed a low cost vet to you.

May cities have things such as Houston's SNAP - an assistance group for low income families, and nationally there is the wonderful Fund For Animals organization, and it goes with out saying I always recommend the SPCA. You might check your local yellow pages for animal assisstance agencies/ organizations

I'm glad you asked this and so many people have answered because I'm having the very same problem. My cat was a stray I took in and she is missing most of her teeth on her bottom jaw. Hard food is out of the question when I'm in a hurry (4 days a week, that's generally the case) so I've been giving her wet food. I started alternating wet food and hard food that I've added water to and she's gaining a LITTLE. I'm going to buy dome kitten formula to mi with her dry food instead of water though and I'm hoping that will help more! Best of luck to you and your kitty!

With all due respect, if you cannot afford your cats vet bills then you should not have pets. DO NOT HAVE HER PUT TO SLEEP! Its not her fault that she is in the condition she is in so why should she loose her life because of it. Contact your local cats protection charity and they will take her from you, give her all the care she requires and then she will be adopted into a home that can give her the care that she needs and deserves.

I would fed her wet foods like fine pureed tune and chicken with liquid vitamines mixed in. And call your local animal shelter for information on a vet who does charity work.

I am sure where you are there must be charity org's etc., in UK we have Cats Pfotection League, PDSA, RSPCA, Blue Cross etc., check out phone book and www, she obviously needs teeth removed, also a dental/descale and most probable a course of Antirobe/Clindamycin, poor soul she must be in pain, hope you can get her sorted.
You can of course mix boiled warm water with her food until it is like soup so she can drink it for now, but this is only temporary. Good Luck
