Why does our 9 month old black lab pull on my children's clothes?

    Cause it's fun, specially if the kids start screaming and running.

    I'll assume you have just the one dog at this time. The pup is treating the children as if they were litter mates.

    While this might be a useful behavior if your child was about to run into the street and the dog (once large enough to stop them) were to grab and hold, it is NOT really a good behavior to encourage.

    Anytime a pup has something inappropriate in its mouth, is when you need to offer it something that IS appropriate, such as one of its own toys or a treat...either one will do as long as the pup/dog DROPS the inappropriate thing and THEN is allowed to accept/have the appropriate thing!

    I know this is an old question, but someone might benefit from this just the same!

    Because you havent established leaderhip with your dog,he sees you and the rest of your family as a followers, therefore he will do anyhting he wants to you or others and to be frank it will one day resolve in agression...
    Get your dog under control asap..

    I have a 3 year old black lab that acts like the biggest baby in the world. She will also pull on my clothes when I'm not giving her enough attention or when she wants to play. It is only with my experience that labs are very playful animals and will try to get your attention in any way they can. Hope this helps.
