When you have anything left that you want to take with you to finish later. )r if you are full before finishing a meal. Or it could be taken as an insult to not finish a meal. Just never call it a "doggy bag", ask to have it wrapped up to to take with you "to finish later".

its not very appropriate to take home a doggy bag at a formal dinner when your just finished a date with someone you want to take home also, especially if you dont end up having a dog when you get back home.

I say anytime you cannot finish your dinner, for whatever reason, you have paid for the meal and it is appropriate to ask for a take-home container. Of course, at a reception or formal dinner, this would not be polite, but when just at a regular restaurant, I do it all the time.

You, can take a doggie bag home anytime there is a lot of good food you cant finish on your plate. I use to go out to eat all of the time and would take my food home there are a lot of preppy people I would go out with and they would laught and make fun like it is low class to take your home for latter, I really didnt care what they thought about me they thought I was weird, they would go out to an expensive restraunt in the mandlay bay, Rock Lobester or wolf gang puck and eat a few bites and that was it like what is the point of whating for a table and you pay $25 for a salad that was nasty to me and a main meal that was $75 they would eat a few bites and say I am full and then they would drink wine that was costly. I hate too wastes money or good food. I am not into the fancy girly places to eat and say I went to this place just too talk about it. I like the mom and pop places too me they have the best, I am not preppy and the taste of the food and the price and the cleanest is more important too me that the looks of the place and gormets fancy stuff. That is not my style,I quit going out with all of those preppy people.I like a relaxed atmospher a quiet family style or chinese restraunt or any thing small business.

Any time you want to eat the leftovers or you really have a dog and the food would be okay for him. French fries do not make good candidates for reheating or eating cold the next day. Have to be careful with bread, too. It can get hard or soggy. Meat is fabulous, pasta works out well. Chinese food was meant to take home.

If your not trying to impress someone, it's ok. Just don't try it at business lunch or a first date.

If your alone, or with friends or family - tomorrows lunch is ala microwaved.
