I believe the record for consecutive games with an extra-base hit (ie a double or better) is around 14 or 15, I seem to recall that Chipper Jones of Atlanta tied it last season but I forget whose record he tied. I will be back with more info once I check this out. edit - I was right, go me! On July 16th last year Chipper Jones hit a home run to make it 14 consecutive games with an extra-base hit, which tied the MLB record set by Paul Waner in 1927. So Derrek has 'just' 7 more to go!
