  • Never tried it by ancestry.com is supposed to do just that.
  • There is never an easy way to trace your family history, unless your grandfather was King of England, which leaves most of us out (at least officially!) the only way is to start from yourself, and gather documents on each generation going backwards until you get as far as you can. Then, you can use a lot of online sites to help you: eg ancestry.com familysearch.org (a Mormon site, but full of great information; however, the earliest stuff that went up is often anectdotal, so check everything well; don't just take what is there to be true) rootsweb.com (lots of message boards) freereg.com; freecen.com;freebmd.com (British sites attempting to put online all the registers, census information and birth, death marriage info in the UK; still a long way to go, but the BDMs back to 1837 are there, as are the censuses from 1851 onwards) genesreunited.com- lots of contributors putting up their information- maybe you can piggyback off someone else's research Remember, you can follow any line that keeps going. Don't just stick rigidly to your paternal one...the maternals are often more interesting. One of mine had the Plantagenet ancestry that made everything soooo easy....LOLOL All the best, and if I can help, let me know.
