  • I think it's rather rude, why can't the person just excuse themself to the bathroom?
  • If I've lost friends over this, I don't miss them, but I've often been seated where it's very awkward and time consuming for everyone to leave to blow my nose... long table and I'm seated in the middle near the wall, crowded restaurant, long way to the bathroom, five minutes wasted and I'll have to do it again once or twice during the meal, meaning they'll all have to wait for me at the end. And anything with spices in it makes me need blow my nose. I turn aside and if that's not good enough for you, please don't invite me again, or else get over it, because it's impractical and almost impossible to change.
  • Well, personally I'd rather someone blew their nose than snotted all over me, so I think generally, yes it's acceptable. However, it really ought to be done as discreetly as possible. So use a clean tissue/ hanky, keep it quiet, if you're standing close to someone move away. If you're eating, only do it if it's an absolute emergency, and back away from the table to do it (and apolologise)
  • I think in a restaurant or out and about then you should try and do it as discretely or if possible in private Its different around your friends and family though in the living room - you know each other so well you can fart, burp, blow your nose...and nobody would think anything less
  • I think it is OK in the living room with family or friends etc. While I don't think it is good in a restaurant etc., I don't think it is any more rude than someone constantly interrupting the conversation by answering their cell phone.
  • Bathrooms are designed for such things. That's why the tissues are usually kept in there.
  • A person should always go to the bathroom. I always wash my hands after blowing my nose to me it's kind of like going to the bathroom .You wash your hands after to prevent spreding germs. I was a waitress for awile and poeple who blew their nose in the restaruant kinda gave me a gross vibe
  • I came across this site due to the fact I was in a nice restaurant last night and a guy blew his nose into a cloth napkin. I am completly disgusted by nose blowing while I am eating and seeing it done into a cloth napkin which I may use to wipe my mouth with at a later date was actually mind boggling to me. How can anyone be so rude?
  • Any other time fluids or solids leave the body, we do it in private. The rule applies to blowing your nose as well.
  • depends on the situation. while eating in the company of others that should be mandatory if possible.
  • I just up and go someplace private...why does someone need to hear that or look at you doing it?
  • I would just go somewhere else or in a corner. I hate when people watch me blowing my nose.
  • I feel the same about breastfeeding. I breast fed but didn't elect to do it in front of others. Oh, that's another question!
  • i hate people blowing their nose around me... theres this girl i work with who seems to have a cold every other week and sits at her desk constantly blowing her nose and she makes such a horrific noise she makes me feel ill around close friends or family it could be nearly accepted i just find it gross, but i prefer that to watching someone wiping there snotty nose on there sleeve lol at a resturant? i would want to leave!! and i would talk loudly how 'rude it is to blow your nose at the table' to whoever i was with
