2/3 of the workers were doing ALL the work and were working for peanuts while the other 1/3 was unemployed.
Basically a lot of mistakes were made like increasing production because supply exceeded demand and prices were dropping. Companies were going out of business when a huge underclass wasn't buying. The government was clueless what to do. Most importantly there was no minimum wage law, which is the solution.
The Industrial Revolution was still new and society just didn't yet know how to work it well.
The scientists started working on Prozac:-)
Pretty much what is happening now. People losing jobs, homes, stores going bankrupt, and relying on government programs just to survive.
Watch the Video by googling the word "Money Masters" and watch the first video on the list. The federal Reserve, the world bank and the IMF are evil banks.

The dollar value collapsed,the housing prices dropped substantially,there was a run on the banks which had to close down.The stock market went down then there was panic and massive selling of stocks that lead to it's collapse.Middle class society was in peril,and many lost everything.There was few social programs that could help the massive unemployment and food lines were needed to feed the poor.It was the time of the "dust bowl" and a drought causing farmers to loose everything.The few that could hold on,and the rich profited from the depression for they could by property and goods at 10 cents on the dollar.
Base jumping was invented. Lots of weeping. Seriously, people were starving and homeless by the thousands.
Sadly, I think we might get to see it in the next decade or so.
