  • If your looking to change the sound then yes you do have to change the muffer, but not the entire system. If your happen to be looking for preformace upgrades then you will have to replace a lot more.
  • You need to change the muffler. the tip has no effect on the sound of your car's exhaust.
  • What you are talking about used to be called a "resonator" that just fit over the end of the pipe. They can make a car exhaust sound abit deeper or throaty, but if you really want something that really affects both sound and performance you need a performance exhaust or exhaust system. The cheapest "louder noise" muffler is what used to be called a "glass pack" muffler.
  • The only modification you can make to the tip is that weird (and stupid) whistle that was a fad somewhere in the states. A piece of metal was welded in the tip to make it whistle and piss everyone off. The tip just directs the air out. For actual sound changes you need to replace the muffler and/or the resonator. These are responsible for the 'exhaust note' that your vehicle produces. Tips can make a system look nice but they won't do a thing for sound.
  • The cheapest way to make your car sound better and louder is by removing the catalytic converter or cat back. By removing that and just welding a straight pipe it will increase the sound of your exhaust. Its like 30 to 50 bucks in a local muffler shop. Buts its ilegal to have no cat back so keep your catalytic converter if you ever get stopped for having such a loud car.
  • You will change it significantly by sticking a whistle up it!
  • I used a Coby exhaust at the end of the car with a 4 inch pipe welded on the end of it,man was it loud set off car alarms.
  • if you have an after market exhaust system, a tip will effect the tone of the exhaust , not make it louder, so dont put a $40 crap pile of tuner tip on those little rice rockets with a stock exhaust and expect 92 DB's. and do us all a favor and stop putting tuner exhausts on anything smaller than 4 Liters! BUHZZING!
