Yes, because we throw away a lot of things that could be fixed. They end up as unnecessary trash, filling up the trash dumps. We also buy too much junk that we don't need, and do not recycle as much as we should.

Of course. Demand uses up materials and energy at a higher rate than simple need. And packaging litters and pollutes, if not recyclable.
