Help answer this question below.
convoys are only dangerous if drivers are tailgating. Tailgating at any time is dangerous and illegal. There is nothing wrong with a group of trucks or cars or both all traveling together provided they are not tailgating and are sharing the road. i travel in small convoys all the time. if one of us breaks down or has a problem we can help each other out.
Convoy: A procession of land vehicles travelling together.
Two or more is a convoy.
Organized convoys, except military, are illegal and extremely dangerous.
In answer to geek860:
Convoys ARE illegal... plain and simply stated. The Law is written. They are illegal.
How are convoys dangerous?
Because they impede traffic, create havoc for anyone trying to enter or exit the interstate. They invite tailgating which reduces stopping reaction time. They impede a drivers ability to see "The Big Picture" of what is ahead of them or around them. Out of the three possible evasive maneuver options of, Left, Right or Stop. A convoy eliminates the Stop evasive maneuver when tailgaing is involved.
ALL professional drivers know this. Anyone who doesn't should not be driving.
I normally go by 3 or more trucks, but the longer the better :)
