Marijuana may not cause death but it does cause permanent brain to the casual user. Alcohol doesn't. The government decided it was better not to have a brain dead society. There may be no direct deaths from the inhalation of marijuana, but there are a lot of deaths you don't see (i.e., marijuana causes traffic accident fatalities too!)

It is stigma created by the goverment, because if they legalised cannabis it would be very hard for them to tax and earn money off. Like anything, it does create problems if taken in large amounts, but a small occasional amount shouldn't do any harm.

Because people listen to the government and media, which only puts out the information that furthers their own causes.

Because Marijuana is a "gateway" drug. Chances are the people who died from alcohol have probably smoked marijuana thinking that marijuana was an ok drug. I could smoke all I want maybe I can drink all I want. Your only scratching the surface. Marijuana and alcohol are two different drugs. The reasons for marijuana being illegal and alcohol not is because they are imbedded in American history. These laws were both made for very good reasons at the time. First off marijuana was legal in the 1800s. Americans had no problem with using it for materials such as clothes and ropes. They did not smoke it. In 1910 the mexican revolution of 1910 flooded America with mexicans were they introduced recreational marijuana use. There were claims that marijuana use caused "violent erratic, and overly sexual behavior(where now a days marijuana is known to cause memory impairment). 15 years later in 1925 some American states began to ban its use to be used only for "medicinal and scientific purposes." In 1936(136 years later from being legal) marijuana was banned against traffiking through legislations. Now a little history of Alcohol: Alcohol has been consumed since 10,000 BCE in Egypt. More Alcohol was taken on the Mayflower then water because it was safer to drink then european water. Our English ancestors consumed ale for hundreds of years before America. America was founded by people who drank alcohol. Alcohol was known back then as "aqua vitae" or water of life. In There is tons of history on marijuana but I think 136 yrs was plenty of time to link marijuana with criminal use. This country was founded by people who drank alcohol, but back then they're was usually only one drunkard per town. People can work hard and drink alcohol and be productive but if too much is consumed then of course there are ill effects(thats why you can't drink and drive). On the other hand 60 or 70 years ago Marijuana was linked to crime and it still is today(it impairs your judgement). www.wikepida.org search history of marijuana and history of alcohol Oh by the way my grandfather and my dad drank alcohol my dad and mom have smoked marijuana and thought it was stupid. I have smoked marijuana and drank plenty of alcohol so don't tell me I don't know from experience.

The uptight people are usually the ones who have never smoked pot. Yet they know everything about it. There's no comparison to alcohol and pot. How many fatal car accidents have you heard of from DWH? (driving while high) People exaggerate that if you smoke pot, you'll drive 25 miles an hour. The up-tight people should burn one. Maybe they wouldn't stress so much. I've known people who smoked pot for many years starting back in high school. That was 30 years ago, and most of them have a successful career today. Must of smoked the non-eating brain pot. You dig it? Have you ever heard of someone O-D-ing on pot? Does it eat up your liver? They should call it " MELLOWJUANA"

Your right marijuana is safer. The reefer madness campaign doesn't help. According to the criteria of the Controlled Substances Act it shouldn't be illegal at all: Potential for abuse, accepted medical use, and potential for addiction. Cigarettes meet the criteria but those can be taxed easily and lobbyists are very good at what they do. The pro-marijuana lobbyists are underfunded compared to the governments DEA and ONDCP. While the pro-marijuana lobbyists receive millions each year from private donations the government has our tax money to fight... against us - "drug war" or prohibition.

I'm not exactly uptight about it, but I stand by my belief that there are pros AND cons to smoking marijuana and both should be considered. (And yes, I've smoked it before.) Yes, marijuana has some beneficial effects to it. I do, for example, see a LOT of potential in allowing marijuana to be used for medicinal purposes. It is also incredibly hard to overdose on (You have to smoke 4 lbs of it or something to OD) and the "weed high" is not one that causes the user to become violent or abusive like alcohol or other drugs have the potential to do. However, I am a little uptight about the fact that so many people are very quick to say that there's nothing wrong with smoking weed, it's completely healthy, impossible to get addicted to, etc. That isn't true. Like any other drug, marijuana can over time alter the functionality of the brain, which can result in speech and movement problems, as well as memory loss. For some, it can also lead to the abuse of harder substances, and people argue that one with me all the time, but I've seen it happen. It is not a guarantee- there are certainly many people who are able to happily smoke weed and never do anything else even remotely harmful, but there are others who use substances solely as a coping mechanism when they are unable to face problems any other way. In these cases, marijuana is a stepping stone to worse things because they are not using the marijuana as a way of mellowing out, but of altering reality. When that high isn't good enough, they will go for something harder. In short, yeah, marijuana isn't as bad for you as alcohol, but it isn't completely without risk either and I just think people should remember that. Just because it doesn't "cause people to die" doesn't mean it's 100% safe.

Reported deaths. Booze is not better. It is legal and so much more accessable. Take your chances you may be one of the lucky ones who dies from mental illness or cancer !
