Do you think gas prices will drop for the Memorial Day weekend? Where are you and how much is the gas in your area today? I am in DFW area and it is $3+

$3.69 a gallon here and rising.

Since this was my answer for 2007 I will add our current 2008 prices...

$4.19 and rising. Ugh

I'd answer this but I died of shock yesterday when I had to pay $3.03 per gallon in Louisiana. I mean for Pete's sake we make gas here how can it be so high.

You guys are complaining about $3.00, I wish it weere 3.00 here. Southern Cali checks in at $3.96 and rising!! I will bet it will be $4.00 this weekend. My next car is electric!!!!!

I live in Ohio and as usally before the holiday it goes down. It's to 3.09 today. But by Friday they say 4.00 easy.

There's no way that the prices would drop for the Holiday. Big Oil has us by the nads. Like any holiday, "have time off, will travel". People have lives and will naturaly spend beyond their means to have a good time. Gas is a need in todays day and age and no matter how bad it gets we'll always pay!

Unfortunately, my bet is on it going up. It always goes up in this area (West of Indy) due to the Indy 500 on Memorial Day. It's just going to hurt more than usual. Today the cost is $2.95.

While it would be FABULOUS for gas prices to go down during the holiday due to increased consumption, I just don't see it happening. It's much much MUCH more likely that prices will go up...supply and demand, ya know? We'll have a higher demand for it, so they will be able to get away with charging higher prices 'cause us dumb Americans will pay for it, lol.

I'm in northern central Minnesota, and the last time I passed a gas station (yesterday afternoon), I believe I saw $2.89, but it fluctuates a LOT out here and could haved gone up or down dramatically since then.

Sigh. I need to buy a Prius or something.

Gas has risen here on the Oregon coast over 25 cents per gallon in 2 days (currently $3.15). We are on a heavily traveled tourist road (Highway 101) and it is likely we will see further increases for Memorial Day.

$2.89, up about a dime from last week. And no, I doubt it'll drop for the holiday.

EDIT - 20 MAY 08, 2310 EDT

One year and three weeks later and it's up to $3.81 for squirrel-pee (87-octane).

- I hate you. Mine barely gets 20. And I have a Caviller four door coup. With a stinking four cyclinder. Not ony do I have no get up it sucks gas like water.

- Get a VW Golf. Carries kids, carries cargo, and can be bought for cheap. I paid $600 for mine. Sure, it needed/needs a little work, but at that price, plus the gas savings.... Just don't get the automatic; they are sluggish and get 20-30% worse MPG. The 5-speed can rip the tires off in first. My '89 could take off on a hill in 3rd. First gear in that thing was useless in the winter.

- Sorry I can't help you there, though that sounds like either a VA or BUPERS issue, more likely VA. The best advice I can offer is to get in touch with the USMC equivalent of the Navy Wive's Club. One nice thing about the US military is that they are quick to redirect you to someone else, usually someone more helpful and/or in charge.

- As for the other. it you want to break 30MPG OR have decent get-up-and-go, get used to the third pedal... ESPECIALLY if you want both. It took me about half an hour to get the hang of it.

- Thanks anyways. You should see it Jerv, they put Persian Gulf and he was in after. He was never even stationed there. I wanted to smash it I was so mad. First he doesn't get his honour gaurd. Then they want his last disability check back. And now they screwed up his plaque. As for the car after three tries my dad said "You're done before the car is."

- I might have an advantage in that my parents worked in a VW garage when I was crawling. By age 5 I understood that when the engine made certain sounds you pushed in the left pedal, moved the lever to the next number (higher or lower, depending on whether the sound was high or low), and then let the pedal out. And when you stop, you put the lever in 1 and let the pedal out slower than normal while giving it a little gas. Granted, I was 11 before I actually tried it myself.... - I did and thank you. I will be making some very angry calls here soon. I just want something for him to be right. He never had a peacfull life, he deserves a peacefull death. As for the car I can get the sounds on the car, but never the stinking timing. Grind, squeal, ker-thunk. Uh,oh.

- Grind = slow down when shifting. I get that when I slam it from 1st to 2nd too quickly. Squeal = check the belts. Ker-thunk = try it again only with a little more gas.

I heard from someone who works in the industry that (i cant remember exactly why it is now but) that we can expect prices to go way up for the summer.

I hope so but some how I doubt it. I live in Elwood, Indiana and the price of a gallon of gas jumped to $2.99 a gal from $2.69 just a week ago.
