YOU WONT GO TO JAIL, DONT WORRY ABOUT THAT. CREDIT IS A PRIVALEGE BUT SOMETHING YOU WONT GO TO JAIL FOR DEFAULTING ON
you'll probably go to jail......eventually. probably. ........no, definitely.
Eventually they will find you and the car. You should turn it in because the longer you use it the worse your credit will be.
If the police run your plate and see the status, they might impound your vehicle.
Is your car out of state with you?
You will turn it in and be responsible from now on. ;)
the lien holder will hold you responsible and possibly sue you for the remainder of what you owe. If you fail to pay off the money (they could care less about the car, they want the money) You'll get a court summons and if you fail to appear it could possibly become criminal if your registration or title were cancelled or became unrenewable because of the debt.
I've heard in some states when an auto loan/repo goes into collection and the auto cannot be retrieved, that the lien holder will write it off, collect insurance on it, and then turn it into a credit debt instead of a vehicle loan debt. At this point the title can be cancelled as if the vehicle had been totalled and you won't have proof of a title, which is necessary to get licensed in many states....and you still owe them the money.
Best bet is just talk to them and work out a payment plan, believe me they want the money back more than they want the car.
