If the government works out a plan for universal health care, will that put in danger all those jobs created by the health insurance companies? Wouldn't it be better that the government worked with these companies to provide affordable health insurance?

No. Those companies are in the business of denying medical care to their paying customers. It's past time for us to say we're not that stupid.

Their goals are completely different. Private cos exist to make a profit. Govt exists to perpetuate itself. This stuff is way more complicated than the avg guy imagines. They want completely different distribution methods, methodology, benefit levels, decision-makers, pricing incentives and medical underwriting methods. They will never merge plans. Even now Obama is talking about another option available alongside existing private plans...no merging.
