I never had the "talk" like charis (^above) was talking about. But I guess I may have started searching online or even watching a porno, I'm not 100% sure though.
-
There was never any real overt effort made by anyone to keep the "Big Secret" from me when I was younger. So I just slowly figured it out on my own.

I learned the general concept from my two cousins who were complete heathens and raided their fathers extensive porn collection on a regular basis from the age of 7 on. The rest I learned from school, TV, and the internet. The questions I was unclear about I just asked my mom. She is a nurse and we always had a very open and comfortable dialogue about things like that.

WHew, that was a long time ago. My mom talked to me honestly and simply when I would express a question or interest in something, I guess probably about 5-6 when you notice that your boy cousin looks a bit different than you do. I remember she tried to use the most accurate words, no dirty slang or baby names for things. Sex was just something moms and dads did that was special between them and that was fine for me. In last year of elementary school, possible 6th grade, we had to see a film at school, very dumb graphics but I already knew alot and didn't see the point.

I found The Joy of Sex hidden on my parents' bookshelf. Behind many other books, turned around backwards. I said: "Ewwwwww!" and put it back. But returned to it many, many more times, later, in secret. Anyone else do this?

I was at a formal dinner party my parents were hosting, and I don't know who was talking about what, but I overheard a conversation and asked my mother quite loudly "Mommy, what's an orgasm?" She about died right then and there, but took me upstairs and explained about how it was "the fun part of sex"... (as if the rest weren't fun too...)

I had the old fashion "talk" from my dad... and the rest I found out about on the internet...

I occasionally asked questions and my mom always answered seriously and just enough to get me satisfied. She used correct words if she knew them. (We were all just learning English at the time and she often didn't know the English word. IF she didn't she used the French word for whatever 'it' was.) I think I first started being curious at about 4-5 yr. Didn't need huge explanations just a little. She told me what was age appropriate. I never believed the wild things friends and other people said because I already knew what she had explained. SHE made sense. They didn't/

Sex education in school. Btw, I think you would probably get away with using the word SEX, without the hyphen.

At a young age, I was bored with my childrens' books... I had already read my dad's Tolkien and Stephen King, and moved on to the Encyclopaedia Brittanica, and started with the biggest ones. By the time I got through the "S" book, I knew more than any other 7 year old in my school about where babies came from.
-
I don't remember how I first learned about it. But most of the learning came from my friends in school, tv and then sex education class in school.

Instinct. You learn it on your own. Sometimes peer pressure and school give you some hints but you know what you want . The biggest thing is kids thinking about it are mostly concerned with their friends and their reputation. Be like Nike and just Do It.
