  • mines stopped around 5/6 months, so your puppy is on his or her way. Just don't yell at it for making the dirty in the house, instead watch for signs.. (dog's sniff in the circles when they need to poop) and just rush the dog outside. Every hour puppies should be taking outside to a designated "pee/poo" spot", and say the command "PEE" or w.e and wait 5 minutes if it doesn't, bring him/her inside, don't let them run off when you say the command. it's a lot of work, bringing puppy outside every hour, but it's worth it in the end.
  • It depends upon the breed of the puppy. Smaller breeds have smaller bladders! They typical "rule of thumb" is number of months old plus one hour. So in your case, we would HOPE that your four month old puppy MIGHT hold it a total of 5 hours at this point in time. REMEMBER this formula is NOT WRITTEN IN BLOOD...it is only a guideline for how long (under perfect conditions) your puppy MIGHT BE capable of holding its urine. Perfect conditions would include that the puppy has NO health concerns, no possible UTI to contend with. That you have been diligent in positively training, making it a positive REWARD system to go potty so the pup is making the "CONNECTION" to the desired correct behavior. Ideally, taking the pup out WITH YOU, on lead, to the preferred SPOT outside. Verbally encouraging it to "go potty" and then quickly reinforcing the correct behavior of GOING, by following up immediately with PRAISE AND TREAT...Lesson..you do THIS HERE, you earn THIS GOODIE AND PRAISE...GOOD DOG! Likewise you are not allowing your currently IN TRAINING puppy to have free access to your house, unless you are actually keeping an eagle eye ON the puppy. So that you can CHEERFULLY interrupt any likely accidents before they have been completed and quickly get the little one OUTSIDE into the correct space! You use a crate, baby gates and a tether for times you can not simply watch, uninterrupted. The tether is attached to YOU, so you can diddle on your computer, chop veggies for dinner, watch some TV or read a book, have your puppy OUT, but still KNOW every single move he/she might make, what they are up to and they can enjoy "freedom" without leaving your sight at all!
