Depends on the kind of duck. My ducks won't touch bread, and they love worms and bugs. They eat snails and slugs, and love lettuce. I feed them cracked corn, and commercial feed. It cannot have any medication in it, or it will kill them. I saw one eat a salamander type thing (couldn't see it well), and I think they eat fish and tadpoles. The small fish and tadpoles have been disappearing in the creek where they swim.

they are called bottom feeders. they reach down through the water with their long necks and sort through the dirt on the bottom of a shallow lake or pond for bugs and vegetable matter. and cracked corn if humans want to feed the ducks.

Depends on the kind of duck. Domestic ducks eat grass and grains and small insects they catch. I love seeing baby ducks running around jumping for moths and flies. They are great flycatchers! Muscovies, at least the males will gladly eat the young ducklings in one gulp. It happened to our ducks. Just awful! In the wild they can eat the same as the domestic ones unless they are fisheating ducks. The 'tree ducks' and the 'surf ducks' eat fish, frogs, all sorts of things, plus eating some vegetation.

In the wild? Or in captivity? In captivity, in western countries, they get fed artificial food, but in Asia, the duck is an integral part of the rice harvest. Ducks are taken out each day to walk around the fields, eating insects (such as locust young), frogs and other threats to the rice. Farmers even cut up snakes for them. In return, the ducks lay eggs full of protein, which make up for the lack of other protein sources in the farmer's diet. The ducks also help turn the soil, and, when they are housed, their excreta is used to feed fish and fertilise the field.
