I don't suppose he does really, but if his friends have one he'll be under pressure from his peers to have one too. Kids are pretty cruel.

The majority of 10 year olds don't. I imagine that some specific 10 year olds may need them to say... Call for a ride home from school or a friends house, but there are usually landline phones around that can be used for that.

A 10 year old does not need a cellphone. this age is young for a child to be responsible for a cellphone.

I don't have a cell phone and never have had one... I'm 19 years old. So, if I never needed one, I'd assume that this particular 10 year old person doesn't either.

Maybe because it is trendy and makes them feel older and more in fashion. They do not NEED a cell phone but I know they sit in classrooms texting to one another. Very distracting. If friend have a phone maybe they feel OUT of things. I have even heard the excuse that they do not feel safe without a phone.

I believe it is very important for children to have cell phones from a health and safety perspective. The Sullivan report shows how important it is to have a cell phone in an emergency. I keep my Tracfone on me all the time just in case I find I need it and can't get to it on time.
