I know it means "River". Sometimes it's pronounced "Gang" because the character it starts with can also be used as a "g".
In North Korea there is an area called "Geumgangsan" which means "Gold River Mountain" and it's a very popular tourist attraction. Kangnam is a part of Seoul. It means "south river".
