I've never had a cell phone an I seem to get along just fine.

They are certainly NOT a fashion statement for me. When I am working, they are a necessity. They're nothing more than that to me. I don't text message, or do anything fancy with my phone. I did stick some rhinestones on it because I like rhinestones. I would never spend money on a phone because it was fashionable. All I need it for is communication.

They're both. Cell phones can really be helful in a state of emergency. Let's say this never happens but, you are riding home, and get lost, car breaks down and a man offers you a ride. He is a murder or rapist whatever, and you know it. You call call the police, parents and notify them where you are, giving them landmarks, adresses etc.. They weren't much use in the Twin Tower crash, the signal died, and the cellphones were useless. However there are those who claim cellphones are a huge necessity, and they only use it for fashion purposes, to show off. They show their friends their new chocolate, sidekick whatever and totally lose the point that its a communication device, and that it may save them possibly in an emergency. So with that said, they are a necessity yes, to those who care about their safety and condition, and are used as a fashion statement to those who think that they are cool, shiny, new and lose the true purpose of it.

Some people pretend to talk on a cellphone, when their service is not even activated. is this a fashion statement?

Some people have discontinued their home phone, in lieu of a cellphone. this is a necessity.
