  • I have seen this happen for two reasons; 1) Misadjusted Idle speed - Some older cars have easilly adjusted idle speeds so you can correct this yourself. My old Corolla's carbeurator did this all the time. Most never cars lack this option though. 2) Oil system problems - This may be stupid, but I've seen it. My father-in-law doesn't like to change his oil. After 8 months/~9,000 miles, his Caravan regularly stalled at idle like that. After he changed the oil last week, it hasn't happened once since. I suppose that anything that prevents good oil from lubricating properly (old oil, bad oil pump, etcetera) could cause similar issues.

  • What kind of car is it? Is it carburated? Does it only happen on Hot Days? Cold Days?
  • had 86 chev celeberty that did that ,had to replace oxygen sensor
