  • French politics is representative and democratic. It is built on a semi-presidential platform. In this, there are two senior roles. One is that of President, who is Head of State. The other is the Prime Minister, who is Head of government. Government consists of both the Houses of the French Parliament, the Senate (Upper House) and the national Assemmbly, and also in the Judiciary and local governments of the regions and the departments, the smaller units of France. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the Senate and National Assembly. The Judiciary is quite independent of the executive and the legislature.
