The missionary can start writing home on his/her first Preparation Day (P-day). This day is usually Monday. It is the day of the week for doing necessary chores (laundry, shopping, cleaning, and letter writing). This first P-day would be the missionary's first Monday in the Missionary Training Center. (This is the place where the green missionaries are trained to be missionaries and, if needed, taught the basics of the language of the people among whom they will be serving.)
