Will I have sufficient control of a ply and balsa P47 Thunderbolt if I have up and down control from the flaps and left and right from the ailerons?

    It depends what you deem "sufficient". Surefly by "flaps" you actually meant to say "elevator(s)" right? I don't see it working at all with just flaps and ailerons... I suppose it might be flyable by an expert but not stable if you had just ailerons and elevator. In general, if you want to keep it down to 2 channels or control surfaces, you skip the ailerons and just have a rudder and elevator. If you are making a replica though, why would you cut corners? You should just make a cheap beginner's model if you want to learn with it. I only say this because you WILL crash it and have to repair it at first... Flaps and/or slats and/or air brakes should only be added if you have extra channels on your radio, extra servos, and extra time on your hands and are confident you won't destroy it on the first flight :-)
